SEIU approves Jackson contract

Members of the three bargaining units of SEIU Local 1991 approved the tentative agreements with Jackson Health System, the union announced late Thursday.

The announcement did not say what the exact vote totals were for the nurses, healthcare professionals and physician units.

Union members agreed to take no automatic raises for the next three years, pay three percent of salary toward pensions and take fewer vacation days. They also agreed to forego some overtime and give up $1,000 in flex spending.

Management has said the deal could save Jackson $50 million a year for the next three years, although board member Michael Bileca said he calculated the bottom-line savings would be considerably less.
