Hundreds of Walt Disney World employees gathered Monday at the Buena Vista Palace hotel to rally before contract negotiations with the company begin next week.

The event marked the first time Disney's largest unions, Unite Here Locals 737 and 362, have worked together to fight for a contract. The current contract expires March 29.

The locals represent about 20,000 Disney workers in fields such as housekeeping, food and beverage, custodial work and attractions operations. Among the hot-button issues: pay increases, health-care costs and fears that Disney will replace pensions with a 401(k) program.

Workers chanted "It's time to win!" while holding signs with messages ranging from "Keep the Pension" to "Stools 4 Cashiers."

Disney said it has a history of working constructively with unions and that the company is optimistic the two sides can reach a reasonable agreement. The company also said it offers a "leading pay and benefits package."
