NYC schools chancellor meets with charter leaders
Source: Times Union

New York City's schools chancellor has met with more than 100 representatives from city charter schools.

Chancellor Carmen Farina (fah-REEN'-yah) met with the charter operators on Saturday at the New York City Charter Center.

Charter operators have been apprehensive about Mayor Bill de Blasio, who criticized charter schools during his campaign.

Since taking office last month, de Blasio has indicated he would cut funding for charters.

Participants said little policy was discussed at the closed-door meeting.

Michael Duffy, founder of Great Oak charter schools network, told the New York Post (http://bit.ly/1fack4v) that the meeting was "a great first conversation."

City Department of Education spokeswoman Devora Kaye said the meeting was "part of an ongoing conversation as we work to deliver success for every public school student."
