An IBM workers group has called an informational picket for Tuesday afternoon in Poughkeepsie and at seven other IBM Corp. sites nationwide.

The objective is to “call attention to the IBM job cuts and off-shoring,” said Lee Conrad, national organizer for the Alliance@IBM, a local of the Communications Workers of America.

Tom Midgley of Poughkeepsie, president of the Alliance, said in the announcement, “IBM employees and their communities continue to see IBM cut employee jobs while shifting the work off-shore. This destruction of IBM jobs is unacceptable and we will be sending a message to IBM — Stop off-shoring our jobs.”

The rally will be along Route 9 in front of Spackenkill Plaza.

The Alliance estimates IBM’s U.S. employee population is now 95,000, down from 132,000 in 2005. IBM no longer gives U.S. or site-specific numbers.
