Jesse Jackson joins strikers on Phila. picket line

The Rev. Jesse Jackson joined striking Red Cross workers on the picket line in Philadelphia this morning before heading across the river for a tour protesting New Jersey Gov. Christie's fiscal and labor policies.
The Red Cross blood collection workers went on strike a week ago today in what the union has described as a contract dispute over staffing, scheduling, training and collective-bargaining rights.

The striking union, Health Professionals and Allied Employees Local 5103, represents about 240 workers who staff blood drives normally held each day by the Red Cross' area collection arm, the enn Jersey Blood Region. The Red Cross is still collecting blood using other workers.

After spending time with the strikers, Jackson is scheduled to go to Camden for a rally this morning in support of union bargaining rights and protesting Christie's proposed budget cuts.

What is being billed a "Solidarity Tour" will take Jackson to Jersey City, Newark, and Trenton for other rallies Wednesday
