A former office secretary for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 333 union in Lansing has pleaded guilty in federal court to embezzling more than $400,000 from the union and its joint apprenticeship and training fund.

April Dawn Franklin, who had been employed by the union between 1999 and 2009, said she took $234,331 from the apprenticeship fund between 2006 and 2009 and $40,886 in union dues between 2008 and 2009.

A plea agreement last month also refers to additional funds Franklin took from the union, bringing the total amount she embezzled to $411,979.37. Representatives of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 333 didn’t return a call seeking comment Wednesday, and Franklin couldn’t be reached for comment.

Franklin faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 at her July 25 sentencing.
