Nurses in Plattsburgh say patient care is at risk at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.

More than 50 supporters of the New York Nurses Association lined Cornelia Street outside of CVPH Medical Center Wednesday afternoon. CVPH health care professionals claim the management refuses to guarantee the safe staffing levels necessary to protect quality patient care. Nurses say they are worried about the new doctor to patient ratios and not meeting salaries necessary to avoid losing nursing staff.

CVPH management says they support their staff and are open to ideas on how to improve the work environment.

"We're here to take care of patients, that's what we do. The staff that are out there are there on their time, they're representing a cause they believe in, we believe in them and we'll work through this. We have great relationships with our union partners. This is something we'll continue to work through," said Michelle LeBeau of CVPH.

"I love nursing, but they're really pushing us to question do I want to stay in a hospital setting? I mean, I've been doing this for 20 years and I never thought about leaving the bedside, but there's a point where you say am I doing my job safely and I need to protect it," said Tracey Garvey, a registered nurse at CVPH.

This is the second informational picket surrounding these concerns
