Worker unions ending at UW Hospital
Source: Milwaukee Business Journal

On Monday, the contract for about 2,000 nurses and therapists represented by the Service Employees International Union chapter SEIU Healthcare Wisconsin at UW Hospital in Madison ends, leaving the workers without union representation.

The union's demise at UW Hospital is the result of Act 10, the law that sharply cut back collective bargaining rights for state employees. The law will end up eliminating union representation for about 5,000 workers at UW Hospital. Some nurses and other employees fear that without a union, they would be less able to fight policies like mandatory overtime, which was banned in 2006
