Nursing home workers authorize strike
By: Mike Courtney

Union workers at Williamsville Suburban Nursing Center voted Tuesday to authorize the bargaining committee to issue a strike notice if an agreement is not reached at negotiations on Wednesday.  This vote came after workers held an informational picket on June 28th.

The nearly 200 certified nursing assistants, licensed Practical Nurses, Activity Aides, Maintenance Staff and Unit Clerks who work at Williamsville Suburban voted to join 1199SEIU in November of last year. After nearly eight months of negotiations, the two parties remain apart on wages, health insurance and providing sick time benefits for part time employees, all leading causes of the significant employee turnover rates at Williamsville.
