Showdown? FairPoint Communications To Continue Operations If Unions Strike

Following the CWA and IBEW’s decision to authorize a strike against struggling Fairpoint Communications, the company is stating that it has a strike contingency planto ensure its customers are serviced in the event of the strike.

FairPoint Communications says it has plans to ensure that its services to customers continue in northern New England in the event of a strike.

Unions representing nearly 2,000 employees of thetelecommunications firm in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont are scheduling a strike authorization vote from July 11 to 13.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers System Council T-9 and Communications Workers of America Local 1400 began negotiating with management on April 25. Their contracts expire on Aug. 2.
