UFCW 8-Golden State Begins Informational Picketing at Four Walmart Neighborhood Markets
Source: Businesswire

UFCW 8-Golden State President Jacques Loveall announced Union activists established informational picket lines today at four newly-opened Walmart Neighborhood Market stores in Northern and Central California.

The picket lines are in front of Neighborhood Market stores at 1421 Coffee Road in Modesto, 255 G St. in Lincoln, 4080 Douglas Blvd. in Granite Bay and 2700 Marconi Ave. in Sacramento.

Loveall said the Union is asking the public not to shop at the stores, which provide substandard wages and benefits to their employees. He urged shoppers to patronize Raley’s, Save Mart, Food Maxx, Foods Co, Safeway and other stores recognized as meeting community standards.

“Our members are prepared to do whatever it takes to ensure workers at Walmart and its Neighborhood Markets have the same access to the good pay, health care, pensions and job security provisions enjoyed by Union members,” he said.

Through its YourBreadAndButter.com campaign, the Union continues its informational picket lines in front of other stores operated by Walmart, Fresh & Easy, Nugget, Target, Whole Foods, WinCo, Vallarta, Trader Joe’s and other retail chains known as failing to meet industry standards in wages and benefits.

UFCW 8-Golden State represents some 35,000 members who work in grocery and drug stores, food-processing plants and offices from the Oregon border in the north to Kern County in the south.
