SEIU Launches Ads to Get Out the Minority Vote

The Service Employees International Union launched ads in battleground states that encourage minorities to vote, a final piece of organized labor’s push to re-elect President Barack Obama and Democrats in Congress.

The union, one of most politically active and racially diverse, said Tuesday it is spending $250,000 in Colorado, Florida and Nevada to air ads on Spanish language television that say an Obama presidency will help expand access to health care and help educate children. SEIU and Priorities USA Action together have spent $4 million on Spanish-language advertising since June.

SEIU also plans to air $300,000 of radio ads in Nevada, Ohio and Wisconsin to encourage African Americans to vote early. The ads contend that GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney would set back the black community with regressive policies, and that Mr. Obama stopped the economy from getting worse and ensured health care. The ads also try to encourage voting by contending there are tactics aimed at keeping African Americans away from the polls…
