Machinists union talks to Boeing employees in SC
By: Associated Press

Union officials are meeting with workers at Boeing's North Charleston plant.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported that the informal sessions with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers have only attracted a few dozen employees.

But the meetings are especially sensitive after the fight between the union and Boeing after the company announced it was building an assembly plant in South Carolina.

Machinists union spokesman Tommy Mayfield says more than 50 workers have talked to him about their concerns with overtime, scheduling and opportunities for promotion. He says the South Carolina workers are aware the union employees at Boeing plants in Washington were paid more.

U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint says South Carolina Boeing employees would be foolish to even talk to unions.
