Red Cross Workers Formally Approve Contract That Ended Strike
Source: The Hartford Courant
By: DAVID OWENS

America Red Cross blood collection workers voted Sunday to ratify a new contract with the Red Cross, formally ending a strike that began Nov. 3 and was suspended Nov. 13 with a tentative agreement.

Larry Dorman, a spokesman for Local 3145 of the American Federal of State County and Municipal Employees, said the vote was 3 to 1 in favor of the agreement. The Red Cross workers represented by AFSCME include phlebotomists, nurses, lab technicians and driver technicians.

The workers achieved an 8 percent pay increase over the life of the contract, but the Red Cross prevailed on health care, pension and staff issues. Union leadership still recommended approval, Dorman said.
