American Airlines, pilots union extend talks on labor agreement

American Airlines Group Inc.(NASDAQ:AAL) and the Allied Pilots Association will continue negotiations on a combined labor agreement, and they have set a new goal of mid-December for come up with a pact.

The Wall Street Journal reported that American in their talks.

American had set a Nov. 21 deadline for the union to accept the basics of the airline's Nov. 11 offer, not the union's subsequent counter proposal. American suggested that if the union didn't go along, it would go on to arbitration. The union would be forced to go along with its outcome, the Journal said.


The newspaper reported that American's proposal includes bigger raises than the pilots would receive under arbitration. Pilots had countered with an even bigger raise to make up for the lack of profit-sharing, the Journal said.

The contract would cover pilots for legacy American Airlines as well as US Airways pilots added in the carriers' merger last year. Post-merger American is the world's largest airline by operations.

American is based in Fort Worth, Texas, and has its second-largest hub at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, where it is by far the dominant carrier.
