Stepan Co. lockout going nowhere
By: CINDY WOJDYLA CAIN

Stepan Co. workers who belong to Teamsters Local 179 were locked out of their jobs at the Millsdale plant near Elwood on Thursday.

Company officials said the action was taken when union members rejected Stepan's "best and final" offer. The union knew employees would be locked out if the contract vote failed, said Greg Servatius, vice president of human resources for Northfield-based Stepan.

The plant makes ingredients used in cleaning products. It has 400 employees at Millsdale; of those, 215 belong to the Teamsters.
