Fedex Wins Round in Union Fight
Source: Nashville Business Journal

Memphis-based FedEx has likely won a key fight thanks to a delay by the U.S. House of Representatives that will push a vote into next year, when the chamber will be dominated by Republicans.

The delay is tied to the FAA Reauthorization Act, which includes a provision that would make it easier for FedEx drivers to unionize, The Commercial Appeal reports. That language, which has been opposed by Sens. Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander, is expected to be dropped in the next Congress, a FedEx spokesman posted at brownbailout.com.

The provision would have changed how FedEx employees are allowed to unionize. Currently, the company is governed by the Railway Labor Act, which requires employees to unionize nationwide. The language would have put FedEx under the National Labor Relations Act, which allows local unions to form.

The language has led to an angry back-and-forth between FedEx and rival shipping company UPS, which supports the change.
