PTI Labor Research will be discussing the process of union decertification and union de-authorization as defined by the National Labor Relations Act.

De-authorization is a good option when employees don’t necessarily want to vote the union out in its entirety. The sole purpose of de-authorization is to vote for the removal of “a union security clause,” making membership of a union and the payment of dues voluntary.

Decertification on the other hand is a good option when the employees DO want to vote the union out in its entirety. However, there are many rules that must be followed in order for a decertification election to take place.

We will be discussing the differences between these two types of elections as well as what the company’s role may be in the process.
